Hey, I'm Mika! I'm from Beringen, Belgium. I'm 21 years old and currently in my second year of Applied Computer Science with a focus on AI. But there's more to me than just code, so let me tell you a bit about the person behind the projects.
Outside the Code
Fitness & Self-Improvement
I spend most of my free time at the gym. I build and run my own programs, tracking progress and adjusting as I go.
Competitive Pokémon
I've been playing since I was a kid. There's more strategy to it than most people expect: teambuilding is basically applied problem-solving.
Books & Anime
I love fiction that hides real lessons inside the story. The best works don't hand you the insight, you have to find it yourself.
Always Learning
I'm always picking up something new outside my field. Right now I'm deep into world geography.
Why Applied Computer Science?
The Foundation
During most of high school, I studied engineering. That's where I first got introduced to programming and electronics, and I quickly realized those were the parts I genuinely enjoyed.
Finding My Lane
The rest of the curriculum started to feel more like a chore than a challenge. So I made the decision to switch to computer science for my final years, and it honestly felt like coming home.
The Spark
From there, my love for programming just kept growing. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn.
All In on AI
What really caught my attention was the rise of AI. Seeing what's becoming possible with machine learning and how fast the field is evolving made me want to be part of it. That's what brought me to Applied CS with a focus on AI, and I haven't looked back since.
My Dreams & Ambitions
The Goal
Helping businesses grow smarter with AI.
My goal is to help businesses improve their processes through AI. I'd love to grow into a role as a machine learning engineer or data scientist, involved in the entire process from understanding the problem to building, training and deploying the model. I thrive on variety and I am not the kind of person who enjoys doing the exact same thing every day. Ultimately, I want to create something truly unique that has a real impact.
The Drive
Fascinated by what AI can become.
What fascinates me about AI is how it mirrors human intelligence. I’ve always been amazed by what the human body can do, and the idea that we can build technology to replicate that is incredible. The ability to create something so complex from scratch is what drives my passion.
The Steps
Learning Out Loud.
I am actively expanding my network, both locally and internationally, through platforms like LinkedIn and through opportunities like my Blended Intensive Program in Cologne. I try to stay active on LinkedIn with regular posts and am in the middle of writing a blog post to share the lessons I learned in Cologne. I believe that learning in public is one of the best ways to grow, and I want to hold myself to that.
